Cuffs- Made for China
On my sister’s trip to China, she will visit both private and public run orphanages. She will visit with the children that are primarily school-aged and in the government’s mind “unadoptable”. I have my theories as to why these kids aren’t given opportunities…Anyway, my sister will be traveling with her 8 and 9 year old sons and they totally enjoyed their time last year with the kids. They took them to the “Great Wall” (none had been and they are just miles from it) played and ate meals with them.
I thought making these cuffs would be a nice “friendship” gift that Jack and Sam can give to both girls and boys. The below tutorial was so easy and I think they look really cool. Obviously- do what you want! I know there are a lot of different ways to make these cuffs and I can’t wait to see them.
If you would prefer to make a beaded bracelet or any other kind of wrist adornment, that’s cool too. The idea, is to have fun.
Total needed: 50
Cuff tutorial:

I used thick strapping (the kind you can use for backpacks or handbags?) you can find at many fabric stores. I purchased a yard of the blue for $1.59 and will get about 6 cuffs out of the yard.
The colored trim I found with the strapping as well. It’s fairly thick, so be sure you use appropriate needles in your machine.

I used velcro as my attachment. Because of the ultra-heavy material I decided this would be better than making a button hole or even a snap. I know the velcro looks bit ugly, but once it’s on the wrist you can’t tell!

Adorning your cuff with embroidery, buttons, beads, and ribbons will truly make these special!

This cuff took me literally 5 minutes to make and a total of $8 to make about 10- not bad.
