quandary

Quandary: a state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation.

The above definition is definitely the feeling I have had over the past month or so…we are seriously considering homeschooling for our children. This is nothing new to our family. My husband, along with his 6 siblings were homeschooled and we homeschooled Ellie for one year (kindergarten, yes, I know not entirely a challenge). I have made pros and cons lists…visited a co-op, chatted with homeschoolers, fantasized, idealized, researched and I am still stumped.

What’s wrong with me? And yes, my kids are pretty much on board with it. And no, there is not a dramatic reason why we have started thinking about it.

I feel consumed and paralyzed and guilty…

Okay, I’m glad I got this off my mind and shared with you all. That’s it!

first of all, that banner is SO cute! :) i hear your quandary. my son is due to begin kindergarten in september, and i am still not settled about the situation. i go back and forth ALL the time. we’ve decided to let him give it a go at school and then take his lead. i have a feeling he may lead us back to homeschooling, but he could surprise me and flourish, i have no idea. i have had to resign myself to making this decision one day at a time, and knowing that we trust ourselves enough to know when and if we need to make a different choice… best wishes to you while in the process, i often have wondered how other parents make the decision how to school their child, and know its no easy one. you’ll be in my thoughts!

we love the freedom in all aspects of home education. my children learning in the best fashion for them, changing as they change. time to dream, follow that, and make things happen. it’s been a great decision for us thus far…

just like the above statement: trust yourself. take one day at a time. you guys will figure out what is best for your family.

I agree with the ladies encouraging you to trust yourself. Remember too, that whatever you decide, you can always change it! A decision to home school now does not mean a decision to home school forever (and vice versa). I think you are wise to be a little daunted by home schooling. Frankly, it is hard work and some days go better than others. Yet as a person who *was* home schooled (grades 4-12), I can honestly say that for all the craziness, it was a great education. Some much so that I am choosing it for my own children! My unasked for advice? Go for it :) See what happens. It’s a risk, but the best things in life require stepping off into something new and unknown for a time!
