Love this post. Our "babies" are 2 now and I am finally seeing the next frontier heading my way. We are not yet ready for a day at the Art Institute but soon enough! Looks like it was a fantastic day!

I was just at the Art Institute last month during my first visit to Chicago! I was able to see the Winslow Homer/Edward Hopper exhibit. Heaven!
It IS easier to haul a kid around once they get older! Mine is now 4 1/2 and I don't mind taking her places now that she can do so much for herself.

Errata. Notice I hit the wrong number, should be 19 great grands, not ten. Ten have had train rides.

Glad your kids get the train ride, Sorry I can't be there to take them. We've had 12 rides to San Diego with the grands. Now we've had a whole bunch with the greats, can't recall now how many. All the older ones, with Ellie as the exception? Well, with 10 of the, there are plenty of train rides yet to go. Sorry you missed Luke.

Great series of pictures and what a special day for your family. It's really great that your both artists and can explain the art to your kids. Man, I can't wait for those years you're talking about, though Amelia's pretty darn cute now.

Hi, I'm new to your blog. We also live in the Chicago area and like to take the Metra downtown. In the summer we spend a lot of time at the zoos and Navy Pier. I'm hoping to make it to more museums this summer. Take care!

i totally feel the same with my two, finally the little one is able to walk without constantly asking to be picked up, no diapers and less crying. you are right about the bickering, but when there is lots of neat stuff to look at, they usually stay interested and focused. hey, i am still thinking about your fairy garden and hoping to add some of your ideas to the "kid area" of our garden plot at the community gardens. be sure and update us on it if you do that again this year!!

I'm glad you had a fabulous time with the kids! It looked like a blast - isn't it nice to get out of the everyday routine and go see all that the city has to offer?
