…and one quilt top complete. I am so thrilled with how quilt #1 has turned out! Remember, I don’t regard myself as a quilter in any way, but I do find great inspiration in other people’s projects…especially here, here, and here.

What I love most is that I don’t need to match up any of the shapes. Plus I had a lot of freedom in cutting and the basic layout. Most of the fabric I grabbed from my stash (love all the impulse fabric buying I do from time to time).

Any recommendations for batting? Where to go?

I nearly always use Warm and Natural (or Warm and White) cotton batting on every quilt and quilted bag I make. It doesn’t shift, it washes wonderfully, and to me make the perfect weight blankets. Plus you don’t need to prewash it, it is all natural, and doesn’t come through stiching and pin holes like poly can. You can find it easily at places like Jo-Ann’s and Hancock’s, and online. Good luck, it is loverly!

Carol, that quilt top is gorgeous. Well done to you! I so want to make a quilt, but something keeps holding me back. I know I have to start with simple, but I’ve been looking at some very complex patterns. I want to start with one for Frankie’s cot for summer - you know, small sized and all. I suppose I just have to sit down and do it.

Look at that - you’re a quilter now! :) The style you’ve chosen for the top is one of my new favorites, for exactly the reasons you’ve mentioned; so fun, and yours looks great.

I’ve had good success with the Soft n Bright needle-punched poly-bat that the Warm n Natural company makes. They sell it by the yard at JoAnn’s.

Love the quilt top. I’ve got all the fabric picked out for a couple of quilts for my kids to be made in the same style. I’ve been wondering about batting, too. Thanks for putting the question out there. I’ve been a lurker for a while and enjoy reading your blog. Can’t wait to see how the quilts progress. Good luck!

it looks beautiful, carol. Ugh, all this quilt love around blogland….I need to jump in and try my hand at this! I can’t wait to see the finished quilt. Have you picked the fabric for the underside yet?
