growing!

That good old midwestern humidity has really helped my garden thrive! This past week, I planted some more seeds in my plots and found they had germinated after 3 days! How satisfying and exciting!

We had a family dinner on Tuesday night and I was totally proud to pick most of our salad fresh out of the garden. Just to imagine that less than 3 weeks ago I planted tiny seeds in my newly built garden plots. The kids are really thrilled to see our garden’s progress and I’ll even find them picking lettuce and munching on the tender leaves.

(approximately 4 weeks ago)

Last week I felt that my plants and seedlings were mature enough to spread mulch. Si and I had great fun spreading out “cocoa shell” mulch and the fragrance was wonderful! I felt like I was in a chocolate factory! In the process, we discovered a baby rabbit- I think having my vegetables in a raised plot helps with rabbit nibbling.

Since I am posting about growth, I had to share this shot of my nieces and nephews on my side of the family. My sister was here for a short night- on her way to Washington State and I was so glad to have orchestrated this shot. Jane wasn’t digging it, but we understand. A long day for a 2.5 year old- she still is so cute! ANYWAY, for those of you who KNOW my family personally, can you believe how they have grown? Oh my!

I’ve been in an extreme funk as of late-

juggling summer fun+kids activities+no time to sew= funk

I’m hoping to change that soon. Thanks for bearing with me and reading my rambling posts. Also, I love your comments and STINK at replying. Please know I totally love and thrive hearing from ALL of you! I do- I really, really do!

how amazing !
I love your plants-who-are-good-to-eat garden. In big wood pots ? that’s great ! I have to give the idea to my daddy !

Your garden looks great, as do the kids!

I am finding myself fighting for some sewing time this summer too. I guess it is only the kids that get the real break, eh? ;)

Hi Carol, Look how the boys have grown! This is a great picture and Jane looks cute too. I love reading your posts and it’s fine if it’s “rambling,” since that’s how life is… especially in the summer! I really enjoy seeing your kids and keeping up with what they’re doing and thinking…

Wow! Your garden looks fantastic and tasty. I miss not having a garden this year but I’m sitting the growing season out since I’m in a new house. I want to see what comes up out of the ground before I start planting :)

Wow - I am so jealous of your garden! I am barely, barely keeping a few flowers alive in containers. I love the idea of a mini-harvest before suppertime!

What a great shot of your nieces and nephews - it’s hard to get them all to sit at the same time. Beautiful family!

there is something wonderful about YOUR lettuce from YOUR garden. I love your raised beds. We decided this year, that we’re definitely switching to them next year. And also b/c we’re living here on my g’mother’s farm and we share the garden. I think having things a little higher will be good for her, too.

I can’t believe how old the kids look when viewing a photo! You don’t notice when they’re hanging around all of the time. Poor Jane.
