thanks!

happy thanksgiving!
last night, while i was getting a much needed haircut, my daughter Ellie wrote this essay on the first Thanksgiving. obviously I am proud of her and I can not believe her memory ability! this was written completely without out help…(i don’t even think i would know some of these facts myself…)
The people in England were tired of doing everything the king said. So they a boat to North America. A new world they called it. So all 102 passengers got on the boat. It took them 9 weeks and 3 days to get to the new world. When they got there it was very cold. So they built a common house where everyone could stay, but they still stayed in the Mayflower.
Then, they met Samoset, a Wampanog Native Amercian. He introduced Scwanto and Scwanto helped the Pilgirms hunt, grow crops and harvest vegatables. One day in October, they wanted to celebrate their first year in North America. So they got all their harvested food and had a big feast. The feast lasted THREE whole days. They did not only eat, they played games, had parades and contests. It was a great celabration, a lot like we celabrate today.
Fasanaiting facts:
-The Pilgrims actually had Thanksgiving in October
-The Native Americans were very fond of the color red
-The Native Americans traded things as furs, beads, cloth, leather, mocisanns necklaces, corn, vegetables, tools, bow and arrows, and weapons with the pilgrims.
-The Native Amercians made carved stone. And carved markings in caves.
I love this and will treasure it forever! But it did take everything for me to not correct her spelling- it’s much better her way!

Here’s her reaction when she saw the Macy’s day Parade on the TV- oh yes, the house was full of excitement!

My Simon was full of dance moves! Maybe some day he will be in the parade…the first male Rockette!
