getting stuff done

The other day, I allowed Ellie to take a personal day and not go to school. She was fun to chat with and have around as I go about my day. One of our conversations was a very important listing of favorite colors.

She and I both agreed that we are very drawn to brown. All tones…we just like it. I was surprised being that she is 8 that brown was her first pick. Of course, we also listed a few more colors that we liked…it’s never easy to pick just ONE favorite color!

So- as I was at at the fabric store for no good reason, I spotted this great fabric. I knew immediately that this chocolate brown and all the colors would delight my girl. I also have been wanting to make this simple dress pattern (below) from Burda. The dress is way cuter on then on the hanger, but you get the idea. A perfect A-line shape and fun to layer with a long sleeved T-shirt and striped tights. Has anyone seen striped tights that are not rainbow (already have a pair of those!)?

I hope to make a couple more of these dresses for her and Penny. I find it really hard to find decent dresses that don’t cost a fortune and look like they are for someone 8!

Perhaps I will be productive this weekend and will have a lot to share next week. Our family has not had a free weekend in 6 weeks and I am looking forward to waking up tomorrow and making pancakes with NO big agenda. Of course baby gazing and Tizzy Kay will for sure be a part of my “no plans” weekend.

Happy Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

What a cute dress! I really should make my Lily some simple dresses like that. It’ s so hard to find things age appropriate these days.

I found a link for striped tights: http://www.kidsox.com/id33.htm I’ve never ordered from here, but it looks like they have a great selection. I may end up ordering some for my girl - she loves wearing tights under skirs and dresses in the winter.

I love A-lined dresses ;o)
If you like this type of striped tights, I will help you purchase. They are by www.katvig.dk from Denmark.

Carol,
That fabric is great. For me, finding good fabric is the hardest part. I’ve got one big “super sewing store” near me, which is more miss than hit, lots of synthetics and very little taste and I’ve got one “exclusive” one with prices upward of $30 per metre.
I also find that the best inspiration for getting behind the sewing machine is finding a great piece of fabric - perhaps that expleains my very sporadic offerings.

Oh, please tell us who makes that yummy fabric, I’d love to make a skirt for myself! Brown is definitely cool.

What cute little outfits you make for your girls. They are gorgeous, and by the way your niece is just the cutest little girl. I never get worried when other people’s babies cry, only my own so I guess taking the photos will be something you can show her one day later on.
