from seeds

Isn’t it so cool that all these sunflowers came from a seed about 6 weeks ago?

I was really late in planting sunflowers in this soil rich plot. Last year we had a pumpkin patch, the year before tomatoes. I’ve been trying to give myself a break and not feel guilty because we have not had a real garden in a couple years. But I also have had to be realistic with all the other demands and I suppose it was not my priority.

But now after seeing a couple dozen sunflowers poke their happy faces in this world- I must plan for next Spring. Not too much, but more than one crop!

By the way, the wall of hops in the right corner is my husbands doing…he will harvest the hops soon for some homebrew. This beautiful wall came from seeds from last year’s crop- cool, huh?

very cool! adore sunflowers.

I think hops make a great “cover all” vine – I have some on a chainlink fence and they look like a carpet of green.

homebrew sound wonderful…

Wow, you would think you guys lived out in the countryside, somewhere! So six weeks, huh? Was wondering if I should try planting the seeds that I have… I think I might give it a go! See what I get by October. And I really wanted to plant hops this summer but didn’t know where to start since I don’t know anyone around here that grows them. I must try harder next year. Home brew sounds good!

carol, I loved lookingat all your sewing projects. very inspiring. i just started on a quilt last night. a crazy conglomeration of pinks and oranges.
i was just thinking about Kim and wondering if she had her baby yet. i hope it all goes well. Jude put a post card in the mail for Simon this morning. i’m actually glad the summer is over because it seems like there is more time for sewing and writing and all of that.
over the weekend we saw some giant sun flowers out in the counrty on our way to church. Jude said, “We have to grow some of those.” There is a community garden in walking distance from us, so next spring I’ll get a plot.
I miss you! elise
