Credit to give:
The painting is of my son Simon that my husband so wonderfully created. He has been working (finished this summer) on his Masters in Art Education and has taken several painting classes. I am always in awe of his ability to create such "color rich" portraits so spontaneously. If it were me, I would still be trying to perfect my first painting way back in undergraduate school of a boring still life.

love that painting! tell me more…

playing a bit of blog-reading catch-up. really felt connected to your post on the NPR piece - I had wanted to hear it on the drive home yesterday but missed it. (thanks for the link) it is a subject that interests (angers) me greatly. down to the “ads” for CARS on the GoGurt snacks given out at the girls preschool (i have talked to them about this) and we are the recipients of bundles of hand-me-down clothing from the girls cousins. much from the disney store. i try and pull as much out as i can before the girls get to it but the odd princess piece slips by (what is with those princess peignoir sets????) it irks me. but i try to “let it go”. as you said, some battles have to be conceded. but it is hard. we watch no commercial television. it is just too much. thanks for your thoughtful post on something every parent, guardian, uncle, aunt… should consider.
