to a great Poppy…Cheers!

I am so grateful for this man. He is my best friend and has been since I was 18. Although I don’t need a day to give him the honor he deserves, I do feel I want to introduce the world to one of the most unbelievable people…

To the kids and me he is a driving force that keeps our home stable, happy, together. He is a remarkable teacher in his profession and a talented coffee roaster for his wife. He is also a gentle spirit and I can already see his influence on our children…Little did I know when I met him in the Fall of 1991 that we would live life together. What a wonderful gift I have been given.

By the way, the shirt he is wearing is a freezer paper stencil. I needed to get out of my funk after losing our sweet Bea (still trying to, actually) and so one afternoon I attempted this cool process.

Another gift we bestowed upon him today. When we say Nathan is an “early bird”, we are not joking. He wakes up every morning at 4:30. Oy.

And yes, we do have a new friend in our home. Nathan decided we needed to start off our next year of marriage off right (our 11th anniversary was yesterday) and got this little guy. His name is “Ollie”. He is a Beagle/Blue Heeler (I couldn’t get something exactly like Beatrice) and is entering our home with such joy.

Obviously he is not replacing Bea. But since Bea left us so tragically, we all needed to replace the bad memory of our loss with some sweet hope. Now I can say that the image of Bea without life is being replaced with only good memories and I am hopeful.

And as you can see, Nathan and Ollie have become close chums.

Thanks again friends for sending us your good wishes this past week. They were all felt. It was a good week of reflection and it made me hug my kids and husband a little bit tighter…so YOU go do it right now! Seriously, do it!

I am glad to hear from you. Ollie will be great and will give you so much joy. He is incredibly cute. Love the last picture. 4:30 is a maddening hour to be up, up. I can see why your husband might need a nap. :0) Take care. Oh, I like the tshirt. What a great way to remember this year.

Oh, Happy anniversary, belated! We were on a plane…:-) Thank you for loving an appreciating Nathan, a good man indeed! You are blessed to have him, and he is blessed to have you!

Ollie is darling! I can almost smell that puppy breath… so nice! Why is the name recycled? (from Nathan’s blog)

I love that shirt!

if they were giving awards for best freezer paper stencil, you’d definitely get my vote!! that is my all time fav so far. How in the world did you get your little ones to pose for the making of their silhouettes? did you use a photgraph? (can i copy your idea?)
I’m so glad to see a new addition to your family. i was secretly hoping for a new puppy to come in to your lives. def. won’t replace bea, but so nice to have a little new puppy-life running around!

Carol, thank you for the great tribute to your dear husband! I love it. And I’m so glad you have another dog to keep things hopping at your house! It’s only right. Uncle David and I both have fond memories of Bea when you guys were living next door.

(sheepishly: thanks for the tribute!)
Aunt Robin’s mention of fond memories made me remember when we got Bea. We brought her directly to their house (nextdoor) and introduced her. They had people over for dinner and we were so silly with excitement. They bent their “no pets” rule for us and we will always be grateful for that!
Now, 9 years and 3 houses later, we have another new puppy in our own house. Whenever I look back, I feel gratitude for everything…

I hope the new Ollie doesn’t bite chests like the old one!

We were planning on getting a dog when we moved into the Gunn house, but now that we are moving up to Oly, don’t have much of a yard, and our in-laws have three dogs, I think we will hold off for a while. They have a new puppy that’s a cross between a black lab and a St. Bernard. Very cute. Espen likes to poop-scoop!

[...] I made my yearly shirt for Nathan and also thought my Dad would like it for Father’s Day as well. Because really, what else would you want?! [...]
