uncovered treasures

On Saturday, Ellie and I had a fun excursion. We decided to go to Wheaton and visit their weekly French Market. We were slightly disappointed because the season is dwindling in selections of berries, etc. AND there was a carnival that kicked them into a smaller space.

So we decided to stroll around in town. We visited the “Popcorn shop”. This place is fun- I remember going as a high school student before we would catch a $1 movie in town, it’s a long narrow hallway filled with 5cent and 10cent candy. Ellie had a ball filling her bag…although I just uncovered it today and I swear she ate none of it! Oh well, it’s candy…I’m glad she didn’t gorge on it!

After we hit the candy shop, we stopped at a fun deli and ate outside. It was so nice to hang out with just Ellie and swap stories of life, ideas, faith. We then discovered a church rummage sale and thought it would be fun to look at other people’s junk. We hit the last 1/2 hour of the sale so a lot was gone. We heard an announcement that everything was 50% off which peaked my interest a bit more! And with Penny’s happy disposition she will most likely get the best use.

I found a “vintage-like” puppet theatre. All wood, a tryptych hinged together with a rod for a curtain in the center. I got it for $5 and plan to make puppets for Simon and give it to him as a Christmas gift. Although it will be given to him, I know Ellie will have many shows behind the screen!

And then of course, some great books for 12.5 cents. I could have purchased 10 more vintae books, but we were about 8 blocks away and the puppet theatre was pretty heavy. Oh well, still treasures…

I was especially giddy to find this book! I have a copy from childhood and have shared it with the kids. But over the years the pages have lost their luster and started falling out with each use. This one is in perfect condition and I will keep it for my grandchildren. There are certain books that take me right back to being 7 and this one does it for sure!

Ding Dong…the milk is here!

This morning, I realized that we were to receive our first home delivery of milk and eggs! It was a rainy, dreary beginning to the day, but when I opened our front door and saw our “Oberweiss Dairy” box on the front porch, I was elated!

It was fun to open the cooler and see three glass bottles of milk, 3 dozen eggs, cheese, butter, and 4 small bottles of chocolate milk! It almost felt like Christmas, and if my kids believed in Santa they would have felt like he came to our house early! He/She probably delivered some time in the wee hours of the morn.

So why buy and have it delivered? For the health and well-being of us and our children! This milk is 36-48 hours old, no hormones AND we are supporting a local dairy! Not some corporate guy behind a desk counting numbers…I did a lot of reading on why buying from a local guy and I am so happy with our decision and stance. If you would like to read…go to Oberweisdairy.com and they give some good facts on why to buy local.

This particular dairy uses a number of local farmers for milk and the quality is execeptional. I have not enjoyed milk for awhile and this really taste so much better…it is not sweet tasting and it is so white! Try it in your local area and tell me what you think! It may cost a bit more, but for me it is worth cutting back on other food products that are not necessary.

Here is another “stitching” piece I just completed…This one is for Kim and Matt! I just love the smile and the two polka dots on her forehead, all of Simon’s doing!

Yikes, bad lighting on all these images…this time I borrowed a camera with a flash…I thought I tweaked it in iPhoto, but not too successful!

Simon left yesterday on a trip to Ohio with my parents. He was ecstatic to meet baby Jane and play with his two older boy cousins. So…life was easy! It brought me back to the time when I only had Ellie and it always felt like playing house. While Penny napped I got a bizillion things done and even worked on my latest “stitching”. Good thing as parents you just fit in the needs of every kid as they are born into your family, but it is nice to be reminded of WHY you have kids…one kid at a time…like I experienced yesterday with Penelope Tess.

Penny and I were out and about and stumbled on this fantastic coat at a local consignment shop! It is so soft and warm and will keep her happy this winter. Fashionable? Yes Ready for snow? Maybe not, that’s why she will wear her brothers! Ah, yes…good old hand me downs!
